Our Mission

The Mitsui Ranch Preserve is a charitable, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission is to revitalize rangelands using seasonal grazing, prescribed burning, and reseeding native perennial grasses and forbs to regenerate natural cycles. We measure success by monitoring measurable ecosystem functions such as nutrient cycling, soil building, and water retention. Our efforts aim to correct the negative trends from historical grazing practices by decreasing soil compaction and surface erosion. Our efforts at the top of the mountain will benefit the public by increasing soil organic matter content and microbial diversity; increasing water retention time in top soils, thus increasing water filtering capacity; increasing and above-ground plant and animal diversity.
